Happy 4th Birthday to us at The Blue Mallard!

WOW! It’s our 4th birthday on February 6th and to celebrate, we have created an 8 course tasting menu.

The menu has been planned to perfection and will take you on a unique culinary journey showcasing the best of The Blue Mallard from the past four years.

We have also matched a selection of special wines to complement the different courses.

Burscough Heritage Group

On Monday 9th February, The Blue Mallard are holding a private function for Burscough Heritage Group.

History of Burscough Heritage Group

Burscough Heritage Group was formed in 2010 as an offshoot of a Parish Council Scheme. They have since been promoting the history of the village across the county. During meetings they discuss memories, collects old pictures and regularly hosts guests speakers.

One of their big aims is to document the social history of the village. Members have interviewed long-standing people from the community but are also speaking to the younger generation to make sure they compile their own memories for future reflection.

The chairman Mike Allen said “The group aims to collect and collate history about Burscough and the canal and bring it back to the community through displays and talks.”

“I’m not a local person; I have been living in the village for about five years and the first year I was involved was in 2011”

“It blew me away and it is nice to be in a position when you live in an area to give back to the community and I enjoyed every minute since”

Michelin Restaurants in the North West, Lancashire

The Blue Mallard listed in the Michelin Guide for 2015


Since 1900, the Michelin Guide has listed the finest restaurants, handpicked by experts who anonymously rate and review each destination.

The guide is most widely known for awarding stars to the very best establishments in each country around the world, though they also feature upcoming restaurants and places that are deemed amongst the best in the country.

A rarity in the north west

The Blue Mallard, which is located in Burscough Wharf, has been listed in the new guide and is one of only a handful to be included among the Michelin restaurants in the North West and Lancashire to get such an honour.

Chris Crowell, the Head Chef at The Blue Mallard is delighted with the accolade and said,

We are really delighted to be listed in the Michelin Guide. Our whole team work very hard to make sure customers get the best possible experience and this is a great reinforcement of that approach.

Fresh, local and flavoursome

The inspectors commented in the guide, ‘Cooking is fresh, local and flavoursome, with a modern edge; the set menu offers great value’.

The Blue Mallard regularly receive top reviews from customers through TripAdvisor and Facebook, including one from Angela, who said:

‘Fabulous, well done, well deserved, so proud…the best restaurant I’ve ever been to….Burscough’s gem!’

Chris is now looking forward to opening a second restaurant in nearby Chorley, based on the same successful formula.

The Blue Mallard celebrates 3 years in style!

We are 3.

On February 8th, it’s our 3rd birthday.

We have had some interesting times during the past 3 years. Lots has changed. The fabulous Burscough Wharf has developed into a real centre of culture for Burscough and there are some great friends we have made during that time.

The recession is still hanging around, though it finally seems to be heading the right way, so with any luck and a tailwind, the next three years will be a different story for everyone.

Our food has really developed as well. As many of you know, we have presented a variety of different dining experiences, all with the special Blue Mallard twist.

During the last 3 years, we have tried all kinds of different styles and traditions of food. Themed evenings have included Spanish, Italian, French, Caribbean and of course, our personal favourite – Lancashire.

We are very proud of our local suppliers and their amazing produce and many thanks goes to them for their continued support.

So the challenge.

For our 3rd celebration on the 8th February, with all these different courses to choose from, we need some help.

Burscough Wharf re-opened its doors to the public in February 2011.

The wharf is centred around food and drink, arts and crafts, creative industry, fashion and the community. It is a unique development in the heart of Burscough town centre which has involved the refurbishment and redevelopment of over 12,000 square feet of former canalside buildings.

What else is at the Burscough Wharf?

Within the wharf there is an art gallery, tea rooms, an old fashioned sweet shop, a traditional bread house and even a dolls hospital! There are also boats and barges passing by the restaurant on a regular basis.

It is a great place to visit with the kids and plenty to do and see in the area, before you and after dine with us.

The evening starts at 7.00pm and the menu is served at 7.30pm

We were delighted to discover that we have been voted one of the best restaurants in Lancashire and awarded the Certificate of Excellence for 2013 by Tripadvisor.

This is awarded to only a small proportion of the many hundreds of thousands of restaurants across the world, so we are very grateful to all the people who have left such positive reviews for us.

This is a fantastic accolade as it has been voted for by the people we value the most to let us know how we are doing to provide you with the best food, dining experience and events – YOU.
